Hot, humid weather likely across J&K till Sep 10: MeT

Srinagar, Aug 29: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience generally hot and humid weather over the coming days, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers expected at several places, the Meteorological Centre here said on Saturday.
According to the weather forecast, scattered rain and thundershowers are likely during the early morning and afternoon hours on August 30.
On August 31 and September 1, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with brief intense or heavy showers likely in a few districts of the Jammu division.
The weather is expected to remain generally dry from September 2 to 10, although brief spells of rain or thundershowers may occur at scattered places during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The weather department has cautioned that brief intense showers in localised areas could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides during August 31 and September 1-2.
Farmers have been advised that they may continue harvesting and other agricultural operations.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained above normal across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius, which was 4.6 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 19.6 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees above normal.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 34.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara registered a high of 34.2 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius, followed by 31.2 degrees Celsius at Kukernag and 30.4 degrees Celsius at Banihal.
In the tourist destinations, Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16.2 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg registered a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius and the lowest minimum temperature in the valley at 12.2 degrees Celsius.
Katra recorded a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and received 84.2 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Saturday, the highest rainfall among the stations listed by the department.
The Met Centre advised people to remain cautious in areas vulnerable to flash floods, mudslides and landslides during intense showers. (KNO)
