IFFJK to revive Bollywood’s old association with Kashmir: CM’s Advisor

Srinagar, Sep 7: Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani on Monday said the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) would help revive the region’s long-standing association with Bollywood while providing a platform to local filmmakers and artists.
“Bollywood has had a very old association with Jammu and Kashmir, with several films showcasing different parts of the region and filmmakers regularly visiting the region for shooting during summer and winter,” Wani said, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “Even today, we want to rebuild that connection.
Wani said the maiden edition of the film festival provides an opportunity to showcase films made by local artists and also gives people in Jammu and Kashmir a chance to watch renowned films from outside the region on a competitive platform.
“The festival would bring greater visibility and publicity to Jammu and Kashmir and provide an opportunity to promote the region’s rich cultural and creative potential,” he said.
On regional cinema, the CM’s Advisor said further steps were needed to promote local talent. He said the existing film policy needed to be modified and further improved to provide greater opportunities to aspiring filmmakers and artists.
“Our effort is to ensure that the talent we have gets an opportunity to come forward, make films, showcase them to the world, earn recognition and bring glory to the name of Jammu and Kashmir,” Wani said. (KNO)
