Ramban, Oct 3: A woman injured in the sleeper bus accident at Marog on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Oct 1 succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Saturday, taking the incident into a fatality.
The West Bengal-registered sleeper bus, travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu, had overturned inside the Jammu-bound carriageway near Marog on Thursday, leaving 33 passengers injured. The injured were evacuated to District Hospital Ramban, while nine were subsequently referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, for specialised treatment.
According to reports from the time of the accident, the bus was carrying around 55 passengers, most of them tourists from West Bengal. The injured included women, children and elderly passengers, with hospital authorities monitoring their condition following the crash.
The deceased woman was among those injured in the accident and later succumbed during treatment. Further details regarding her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death are awaited.
Police and rescue teams, including personnel from J&K Police, SDRF, CRPF, Army and Civil QRT Ramban, had participated in the evacuation operation following the accident. Police have taken cognizance of the incident. [KNT]
