Jammu, Oct 21: Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tejinder Singh on Wednesday said the police would intensify operations against the remaining terrorists, their support networks, narco-terrorism and drug trafficking while further strengthening the security grid across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing reporters on Police Commemoration Day, Singh, said security arrangements along the International Border, the Line of Control (LoC) and the hinterland would be reinforced to maintain peace and stability in the Union Territory.
“In the coming days, our efforts will focus on targeting the terror ecosystem and neutralising the remaining terrorists,” he said.
The IGP said recruitment into terrorist ranks had declined over the past two years but stressed that the police would continue pursuing militants and dismantling networks facilitating their activities.
He said the force’s focus would remain on the broader terror ecosystem, including individuals involved in activities that threaten internal security.
Highlighting the need for a strong security architecture, Singh said the police would continue to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering and preventive policing.
Referring to the anti-drug campaign, he said action against narcotics networks would be intensified, with continued attachment of properties and recovery of assets linked to drug trafficking.
“Those involved in the drug trade, particularly heroin coming from Pakistan, are no less dangerous than terrorists,” Singh said, urging people to share information about drug peddlers and suspicious activities.
He said the police were also closely monitoring gangster networks and organised criminal groups and would continue taking action against those involved in criminal activities.
On drone-related activity along the border, Singh said the police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), had created an additional security layer several kilometres inside border areas to counter cross-border consignments dropped using drones.
He advised people to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious calls, drone-linked movements or any activities that could pose a security threat.
Earlier, Singh led Police Commemoration Day tributes in Jammu and laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial, paying homage to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. (KNO)
