Ganderbal, Nov 5: Several villages in Wussan Kangan block in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are reeling under darkness from the past several months as the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to make a high capacity transformer functional in the area.
The transformer was approved and provided for the receiving station year’s back.
Adil Ahmad, a local resident of Kangan said that despite 33/11KV receiving station established in Wussan area of District Ganderbal, dozens of villages reel under darkness after the frequent technical snag in existing low capacity transformer installed in the station.
“Though a high capacity transformer was approved for this receiving station year’s back but power development department has failed to make it functional and is lying in the premises of the station,” he said.
Another local, Amir Majeed said that they have been moving from pillar to post since the last three years but no heed has been paid so far to mitigate their problem.
“We even registered the complaint in the public outreach program ‘Back to Village’ but nothing has been done so far,” he said.
Locals accusing technical staff of the power development department for not installing the transformer, said every time they are giving reasons for not having an important part called CT-PT, devices used to measure currents and voltages.
“We appeal to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and Chief Engineer Power development department to intervene in the matter in order to bring an end to our miseries,” locals said.
