Srinagar, Oct 31: Declaring that Jammu and Kashmir’s eight-year journey as a Union Territory stands marked by development, peace and progress, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ at here and administered the ‘Unity Pledge’ to participants.
According to reports, participants reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, integrity and security, as the event marked Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, LG Sinha said, “National Unity Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the country and the occasion is also being observed across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Today is the eighth Foundation Day of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The journey over the past eight years has been marked by development, peace and progress,” he said.
Students, youth, officials and partakers from various institutions took part in the run, which commenced from SKICC and concluded at the Botanical Garden in Srinagar.
The Lieutenant Governor also extended his greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of the UT Foundation Day. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is observed on October 31 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contribution to national integration. (KNO)
