Srinagar, Nov 5: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, launched a sharp attack on National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah following his remarks crediting Pakistan with keeping the Kashmir issue alive at international forums.
Reacting to Abdullah’s statement, Sharma questioned his political legacy and alleged that the Abdullah family had repeatedly praised Pakistan while ignoring the consequences of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking the attack further, Sharma raised questions over the alleged financial irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and the J&K Bank case, questioning why investigating agencies had been slow in pursuing these matters.
Sharma also revisited the 1975 political developments and the 1987 Assembly elections, accusing Congress of facilitating Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s return to power and alleging large-scale electoral rigging to ensure Farooq Abdullah’s victory.
He questioned why Farooq Abdullah should be exempt from accountability over his public remarks and demanded that investigating agencies act on the cases he had raised.
Sharma asserted that political stature or age should not place anyone beyond accountability, and called for answers on issues involving national interests, alleged financial irregularities and the history of electoral malpractice in Jammu and Kashmir.
