Srinagar, Apr 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday urged Lieutenant Governor-led administration in J&K to start macadamization work across all vital roads in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir on a priority basis as people are facing problems.

BJP’s Kashmir Media Incharge and youth leader Manzoor Bhat said that they have received hundreds of delegations regarding the maintenance of roads in the City and other parts of Valley. “The Roads and Buildings Department (R&B) should wake up from deep slumber and start working on these roads in Srinagar that have become death traps for the people and led to sometimes accidents,” he said.

Bhat said it is unfortunate that the department is not in a serious as last year they had started macadamization process before April 1. “Unfortunately this year they are not visible on the ground,” he said.

“We appeal to LG Manoj Sinha that work on roads in Kashmir should be started on war footing basis so that common people will not suffer anymore,” he said.

The youth leader said following winter season, most of the roads including major highways in Srinagar, other parts of the Valley have developed potholes, risking the lives of drivers and commuters on daily basis.

Expressing anger over the unscheduled power cuts during the holy month of Ramadhan in Valley forcing people to reel under darkness, Bhat said even in the winter crisis, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) managed to handle the situation but now they have totally failed on the ground.

“Each day, we are receiving hundreds of distressed calls from people complaining about electricity cuts during Sehri and Iftar,” he said.

Bhat appealed LG administration to direct KPDCL for immediate action on the issue so that people will not face any difficulty during the holy month of Ramadhan.

He also urged people also to follow Covid19 guidelines to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the Valley.
