Srinagar, May 10: The lockdown continued for the 11th straight day on Monday across Jammu and Kashmir while police stated that 30 persons were arrested in the Valley for violating the norms.
The government has imposed lockdown across J&K till May 17 in order to prevent COVID from spreading in the Union Territory.
Witnesses said that the markets and the roads wore a deserted look throughout the day. However, some bakery shops and other standalone shops witnessed some shoppers who were seen buying essentials ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Besides, the emergency services were functioning normally while the public transport too was plying normally on the roads.
Witnesses said that the police and paramilitary troopers we deployed on the roads since the wee hours of this morning to enforce the lockdown. The barricades were also erected while the forces deployed on the roads had also erected concertina wires on the roads, thus halting the vehicular movement.
Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours, Police as per a statement has arrested 30 persons, lodged 22 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 95,600 from 699 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout Kashmir.
“Besides, 64 vehicles were also seized in Budgam, Baramulla and Shopian for violating guidelines and restrictions and indulging in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals,” police said.
“The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by the government to curb COVID-19 pandemic,” police said.
Meanwhile, police urged people to cooperate in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs, guidelines and protocols for the safety of the people. “The special drive shall remain continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,” police said.
