There has been no let up in the number of COVID-19 cases being detected across Jammu and Kashmir on a regular basis. The cases are showing a dip in the last few days. However, the report by a section of media has stated that the daily COVID-19 testing in Jammu and Kashmir has plummeted by about 21 per cent between May 09 and May 16 while the average positive cases in a day during this time has remained above 10 per cent in the Union Territory. One fails to understand why the testing capacity has decreased in Jammu and Kashmir amid the continuous surge in the positive cases. The decline in the testing capacity has been giving a notion to the general public that the virus is vanishing on the ground and thus simultaneously people are not adhering to COVID protocols in letter and spirit. There should be no space for the doing away with the Standard Operating Procedures at any cost and thus there is a need to create more and more awareness among the masses and also increase the testing capacity to detect the cases at apt time. The government must consider directing the concerned authorities to increase the daily testing across Jammu and Kashmir to help in detecting the positive cases in the Union territory well on time so that the virus is prevented from spreading without any further delay.
