Handwara, May 27: A teenage girl was killed while her mother sustained injuries after an explosion occurred at Tarathpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The injured lady was referred to Srinagar hospital under critical conditions for specialized treatment.
The officials said that the mother identified as Sara Begum and her daughter Gulnaza were injured near their house at Shaherkoot after a shell went off in the morning hours today.
A senior health officer at District Hospital Handwara said that the teenage girl was declared brought dead on arrival while her mother Sara Begum has been referred to Srinagar under critical conditions.
A police official said that the duo had gone to the forest yesterday and have got regionally famous forest vegetable ‘Daaid’ with which they have also brought some metal-like material similar to a shell.
He said that the metal objects including the vegetables were out under the open sky today. “The metal got heated and due to other physical sources, it went off during which the mother-daughter duo suffered injuries,” the official said. He also said that the daughter identified as Gulnaza has succumbed to her injuries.
An official informed that a cases has been registered in this regard while the investigation was set into the motion. (KNO)
