Newborn dies at Bandipora Hospital, family alleges negligence

Kulgam, Jun 15: The low tension lines hanging on wooden logs and tree trunks in Kahrote village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are posing threat to the local residents as the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to maintain the lines properly.
Locals of Kahrote in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district said that most of the low tension (LT) lines have been erected on wooden logs and tree trunks as the authorities have failed to lay lines as per the set procedure.
Nadeem Mushtaq, a local, said that for the past many years they have been requesting authorities to provide them low tension lines and iron poles but all the promises done so far have proved a hoax on the ground.
He said that at many places, the electric wires have been made to pass through trees and tied with residential houses here which poses a threat of electrocution and short circuits during the prevalence of high-speed gusty winds.
“Due to the overhead transmission lines, we are not able to work properly in our fields as these wires are lying a little above our heads and we feel vulnerable,” he further said. Meanwhile, despite repeating attempts PDD officials were not available for comments.
