The ban on the commercial activities in district Srinagar seems to be implemented only on papers as according to the reports, the commercial activities continue to take place in the habitations here, thus leaving the local populace to lurch at large. Shutrashahi area is one among the examples of such cases where the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities were forced to re-seal the building where the commercial activities were taking place. Few days earlier, the SMC officials reached the spot and re-sealed the building for violating the set norms, However, as per the locals, some of the gates of the building have been kept unsealed, thus paving way for the business men to conduct their businesses without any hesitation. The presence of heavy motor vehicles and other related things due to the commercial activities is only adding to the miseries of the local populace, who are apprehending any untoward incident due to the ongoing activities, thus appealing the concerned authorities to look into the matter. There is a need to launch a drive in this regard at earliest and ensure that all such activities within the residential areas are completely banned forthwith so that any untoward incident is prevented and the people here could heave a sigh of relief. The concerned should also tighten noose in this regard and ensure that no one is allowed to go ahead with the commercial activities in the residential areas across the district.
