Srinagar, Jun 26: A 30-year-old civilian was killed and three persons including a woman were injured in a grenade blast in Barbarshah area of Srinagar on Saturday, officials said.
They said that suspected militants hurled the grenade at an iron-shield bunker manned by one personnel in the area. The device exploded near the bunker, causing injuries to four persons, one of them a non-local woman who is seen in the CCTV video footage, released later, running for life.
The injured were shifted to hospital. However, one of them identified as Mudasir Ahmad of Hanji Gund Beerwah succumbed to injuries at SMHS hospital, a police officer said.
The other injured –Hilal Ahmad of Illahi Bagh Srinagar, Shahid Ahmad Son of Nazir Ahmad Khan of Rainawari and Shakeela (non local) of UP are admitted in hospitals—SMHS and SKIMS.
Meanwhile, police and CRPF cordoned off the entire area in a bid to arrest the attacker(s) besides concerned started investigations into the incident.
“Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law,” a police spokesman said in a statement. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this (incident). Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on.” (GNS)
