Keep Kashmir connected

The tendency of suicides in Jammu and Kashmir has been increasing with each passing day while some youth before taking extreme step have also shot videos, which went viral on social media. Such cases could have been more, but the psychiatrists posted at different hospitals here have been playing a pivotal role in putting an end to such incidents. These incidents are cause of concern for and all. In one such incident, a youth from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has committed suicide by jumping into river Jhelum at Cement Bridge, known as Cement Kadal in Noorbagh area of Srinagar. He has also shot a video before committing suicide wherein he has sought forgiveness. A similar video was also shot by a youth from south Kashmir before taking the extreme step. The experts have already sounded alert, saying that the people especially youth are quite depressed especially after the outbreak of Covid that resulted in imposition of lockdown and confined the people within the four walls of their houses. The reports indicate that the suicidal cases are increasing in J&K. Therefore, in such a situation, there is a need to address the concerns of youth and parents at this juncture have to play a pivotal role in this regard. Besides, the society too has a responsibility to ensure that the people in distress are helped and assisted so that such incidents are prevented and the previous lives are saved. These incidents have to be stopped and we all must work together to help the distressed people to come out of the situation they are facing.
