Ganderbal, Jun 29: The residents of Kassana Pati Hariganiwan of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday held a protest against the water scarcity in their area and blocked the traffic on the busy Srinagar-Leh highway.
A large number of people carrying buckets assembled and blocked the national highway at Hariganiwan.
The protesters were raising slogans against the Jal-Shakti department for failing to provide uninterrupted water supply to their area.
“We are without water for the last several days and are forced to drink contaminated water. There are apprehensions of the outbreak of water-borne diseases,” a lady protestersaid.
Locals requested higher-ups to look into the matter at the earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
Later officials reached the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them that their problem will be taken up with concerned authorities for redressal.
