Srinagar, Jul 2: Nearly a dozen District Development Council members on Thursday submitted No-Confidence Motion against the DDC Chairperson Srinagar Aftab Malik.
The resolution was submitted to District Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz by the ten DDC members and has called for a special meeting to elect new DDC Chairperson Srinagar.
Aftab Malik, who is associated with Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party got 10 votes in the first DDC elections, which were held in November, 2020 and was elected as Chairperson for DDC Srinagar in the month of February.
The resolution moved by the DDC members reads, “We the members of the District Development Council, Srinagar have resolved to move a no-confidence motion against the DDC Chairperson in Srinagar. In this regard, all the 10 DDC members have signed a resolution. The Chairman shall deem to have vacated office forthwith”.
“We also request, Deputy Commissioner (Election Commissioner) Srinagar to arrange a special meeting of members in terms of provision of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj Act, 1989 for the election of Chairperson so that voting among the DDC members is done and a new chairperson will be elected”, it added.
Aijaz Hussain, a DDC member associated with BJP alleged that DDC Chairperson Srinagar Aftab Malik failed to deliver any kind of work on the ground and keeping that thing in mind we came here to the DM Srinagar office to submit the resolution.
With regard to the elections, he said: “We have submitted the resolution and hopefully, we are expecting that elections will be held in the coming four days. And, it does not matter who is elected as Chairperson DDC Srinagar, be it an independent candidate or from any political party, all we want is development in rural areas of Srinagar city.”
