DC Shopian convenes meeting for restoration, clearance process of Water bodies

Shopian, Jul 14: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya Wednesday chaired a meeting of officers to prepare scientific ways of action plan for conservation of water bodies in the district.
The concerned departments were directed to gear up their men and machinery and take all necessary measures for restoration of Water bodies.
The DC directed the officers and engineers present in the meeting for carrying out demarcation of Water bodies and identification of illegal constructions, besides steps be taken for restoring and cleaning of all water bodies in the district at an earliest.
With regard to demarcation of water bodies, directions were also passed to the concerned to expedite demarcation process of all water bodies immediately and ensure identification of encroachments within these water bodies so that major anti encroachment drive is launched to remove all illegal constructions along water bodies to restore their pristine glory.
The DC said that these necessary measures are being taken to restore the glory of these water bodies and make them navigable to pave way for starting in-land water transport which in turn will help restore the original water navigation circuit in Shopian district.
He said that community participation is must and local communities who are actual guardians have a vital role in identification of encroachments and conservation of historical water bodies in the district.
