Shopian, Jul 19: Six years after laying the foundation stone, the multi crore Bijbehara-Sirhama road project is still awaiting completion, thus causing residents of dozens of villages to suffer.
Locals from Bijbehara, Mehand, Wopzan, Sheetipora, Hayar, Kandipora, K Kalan, Sirhama and it’s adjacent areas talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that despite that the project was started some six years, the department has failed to complete it.
Locals said years before the PMGSY department finished widening of the road all along the Bijbehara-Sirhama which heavily worsened the condition of the road but most patches of the road are yet to get macadamized.
“Big patches of the road near Kandipora, Wopzan and Kandipora are in very bad condition and most of the private vehicles avoid travelling on it and the patches which were macadamized have also developed cracks in less than a year,” they said.
Officials said due to the compensation issues at some places and delay of the PHE and PDD department in shifting water pipelines and poles it took more time to complete the project.
“The compensation issues have been solved but at some places still the pipeline hasn’t been shifted which is hindering the work,” officials said.
Locals requested District Magistrate Anantnag to personally look into the matter so that they won’t have to suffer any more.
