Div Com Pole directs Depts to ensure smooth conduct of Muharram procession

Srinagar, Aug 4: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P.K. Pole on Wednesday issued several guidelines to different departments of the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure smooth conduct of the Muharram procession.
The Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in a meeting pertaining to arrangements of the procession held by the Pole has said that at least 60,000 street lights and 140 High Mass lights were all set to be installed in district Srinagar.
In the meeting, Pole directed SMC authorities to explore the possibility of providing or installing the high mass lights near the Imambaras. “Besides, the existing 58,000 street lights, 137 high mass lights shall be made functional.”
“The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) shall also make all street and High Mass Lights functional on all streets along the procession routes in the City and Towns,” Pole ordered.
He also asked the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Lakes and WaterWays Development Authority (LAWDA) and tourism department to ensure functioning of the street lights, high mass lights coming under their purview.
“Roads and Building Department shall also ensure repairing and renovation of roads particularly the Muharram procession routes in consultation with DCs especially in Shia dominated areas,” Pole said.
He said that the Bargi Harwan road shall also be taken up for macadamization. Besides, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and ULB shall ensure repair of lanes and drains in Shia dominated areas on war footing basis.
