Organizing tournaments in Srinagar’s playing fields are attracting a huge number of spectators, who could be seen cheering for their favorite teams during the cricket matches. However, the cricketers as well as spectators get disappointed when the organizing body charges a hefty amount in the shape of tournament fees. Nearly Rs one lakh are being sought from per team for participating in the tournaments, which is not cricket, but a business for many. One fails to understand why and how the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council is allowing such a nuisance to happen on the ground. The playfields belong to the government and nobody has a right to do a business on the government land. One fails to understand the silence maintained by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Although the reports coming to the fore indicate that complaints in this regard have been made by the people, so far there has been no action in this regard, thus allowing the businessmen to conduct their businesses and also keeping the cricket at bay. The cricket has literally gone for a six. This cricket can no longer help us in preventing youth from indulging in drug menace and other things. We must not allow such happenings in our locality, but appreciate those who are putting efforts with honesty, dedication and without any vested interests. The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has a responsibility and it must play its pivotal role to protect cricket.
