Shopian, Aug 30: The residents of several villages of Watchi hamlet in South Kashmir’s Shopian district said that they are facing a lot of problems due to the dilapidated condition of the road from Watchi to Babapora.
The residents of Watchi, Zahidbagh, Darbagh, Safanagri, and its adjacent areas said that the road connecting to these villages with sub district headquarter Pulwama Zainapora is full of potholes due to which commuters as well as passersby are suffering.
Locals said that the road from Watchi-Babapora hasn’t been macadamised for the past several years due to which even public traffic remains off the road.
“From last year, even minimal public transport services have also been closed due to which they are facing a lot of problems,” they said.
Residents said that despite bringing the issue in notice of higher ups several times nothing has been done on ground.
“Watchi being the main village has been ignored on all developmental fronts,” said Manzoor Ahmad, a local resident. “The successive governments have ignored this village due to unknown reasons due to which Watchi is far behind in development.”
The bumpy condition of the road often leads to accidents in the area.
Locals requested higher ups to look into the matter and macadamise the roads at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Nisar Ahmad said that the road is being widened and the construction work is already going on.
“It will take around one week more to complete the work on the drain near J&K bank Watchi after which the road will be macadamised,” Nisar said.
