For the three consecutive days since September 8, 2021, the Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing upward trend, forcing the administration to be on toss to prevent the virus from spreading. The cases are increasing at a time when the health experts have sounded alert and predicted third covid wave. In this regard, the government has stated to have made adequate arrangements to tackle the situation. The increase in the number of cases is obvious as the people could be seen roaming in the markets without following the Covid protocol and guidelines. However, the government amid the spurt in the deadly Covid cases, should start a drive against the norm violators and ensure that the Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) is followed in spirit. The Srinagar district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad conducted surprise inspections of various markets of Srinagar City Saturday in wake of rising covid cases and to have firsthand appraisal of how traders, shopkeepers and people in general are following Covid SOPs in market places. During the inspection, the DC ordered sealing of some business establishments, shopping complexes for violating Covid-19 guidelines and SOPs. Both the customers and members of business community were counseled about the necessity of following the CAB. There is a dire need to start such surprise checks in the markets across the Valley to fight the pandemic and ensure that the cases are not allowed to mount any further. The CAB is must and everyone must implement it in letter and spirit.
