Growing population, growing challenges

The vaccination among the general public is a vital tool to fight the Covid pandemic that claimed thousands of lives across Jammu and Kashmir so far and affected nearly 3.50 lakh people in the last two years. However, the government after addressing the issue of vaccine hesitancy, organized several camps and programmes to make the people aware about the need and importance of getting inoculated following people in large number came out to get vaccinated. According to figures available so far around 70 percent of the Jammu and Kashmir population above 18 have received the first dose of Covid vaccine while around 25 percent have received the second jab. Moreover, the recent directions passed by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir P K Pole has indicated that several people from Srinagar district have not received their Covid jab yet. In the recent directions, Pole has asked the Srinagar administration to identify all the low coverage areas and pace up the vaccination drive at an earliest. The non-vaccination of large number of people can bring a tizzy situation on the ground and can deteriorate the situation further in the possible third Covid wave, predicted by the health experts. Therefore, the concerned officers must speed up the work and ensure that all the low coverage areas are covered at earliest and the expected deteriorated situation is prevented well on time.
