Gridlocks continue to choke Srinagar city

Srinagar, Sep 14: With the spike in the COVID-19 positive cases in the district, the Srinagar Administration on Tuesday sealed five shops and lodged nine FIRs against the individuals for violating the prescribed Sops and guidelines.
The authorities further notified five more micro containment zones in Srinagar, taking the total number of containment zones in the district to 26.
An official from the district administration Srinagar said that on Tuesday five business establishments were sealed after they were found violating the Covid-19 Sops and guidelines.
Acting tough on the Covid violators, the official said, nine individuals were also booked and an FIR was lodged against them under Disaster Management Act for Covid violations at public places.
An official further said special inspection teams of magistrates and other officials, are constituted to check on the Covid violations as the district is contributing half of the total Covid-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There will be a night inspection on the marriage functions in the district from this evening, and wherever the Covid violations will be found, there will be fines and FIRs against the violators,” he said.
The official said that as per the State Executive Committee (SEC), for the marriage parties, gathering of more than 25 people is prohibited, but there are reports of gross violations at marriage functions, as large gatherings are being invited, which is against the Covid-19 Sops and guidelines.
While appealing for the cooperation and adoption of the Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB), the official said, “People have to care for their lives and for the lives of others, they should understand the number of Covid-19 positive cases is higher in Srinagar and we all have to stop this chain”.
According to the official figures, district Srinagar has so far reported 73,234 Covid Positive cases, out of which 837 have died while the district’s current active case load is 656.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reported 150 Covid positive cases, out of which 75 are reported from district Srinagar.
