Budgam, Sep 24: A large chunk of population in Surisyar area of Chadura town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district are up in arms against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for getting impure water supply.
The locals are claiming that from past 40 years the water tank in Surisyar has neither been repaired nor been cleaned.
The locals said that they are getting contaminated water. “Dirty water in taps has become a regular feature,” said Farooq Ahmed.
Despite several representations, the officials from PHE Department did nothing is the general complaint of the residents.
“We have been highlighting this issue from past several months but nothing has changed on the ground. One of the officials from the Department categorically told us that due to lack of manpower they can’t undertake cleaning process of the water tank at Surisyar.
Some locals said that they have been receiving contaminated water for three months and many residents have also fallen sick after consuming it.
“We have been facing serious issues related to water supply. “Contaminated water supply has become a regular feature. PHE is doing nothing to resolve the long pending issue. Even Filtration Plant located in the area has not been cleaned,” the locals said.
Locals expressed anguish against the officials for their casual approach in resolving the water related problems.
The locals sought the intervention of Chief Engineer PHE and appealed him to pass the directions so that water tank and filtration plant located in Surisyar could be cleaned and repaired. (KNT)
