Awantipora, Oct 12: The residents of Reshiepora village of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide drinking water in the area.
The protestors blocked the main Awantipora-Naina road and raised slogans against the department for ignoring their genuine demands.
The protesters alleged that the water supply scheme meant for them remains defunct for even months and such breakups are being witnessed after every two to three days.
“We have visited the PHE office hundreds of times but nothing has changed on the ground,” said a protester.
Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
“Even after protesting several times no attention is being given towards our genuine demands,” they said.
“We request higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief,” locals said.
