“Hybrid” militant killed in brief shootout in Baramulla

He was on mission to target shopkeeper: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 28: A local hybrid militant from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district was killed in retaliation after he fired upon the Army in Cherdari area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday morning, officials said.
Officials said that the militants fired indiscriminately on Army’s patrol party that was retaliated during which a local militant was killed.
The body was retrieved from the site, they said, adding that the slain militant has been identified as Javed Ahmad Wani of Kulgam while he was on mission to target one shopkeeper in Baramulla.
“Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were seized from the encounter,” the officials added.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police informed in a tweet: “Terrorists fired on ADP of Army and Police in Cherdari, Baramulla. Alert parties retaliated and 1 terrorist killed. Identification is being ascertained. 01 pistol, 01 loaded magazine & 01 Pak grenade was recovered from his possession”
Quoting IGP Kashmir in another tweet it informed that “Killed terrorist is hybrid type, identified as Javed Ah Wani of Kulgam district and he has assisted terrorist Gulzar (who was killed on 20th Oct) involved in killing of 2 labourers from Bihar in Wanpoh. He was on a mission to target one shopkeeper in Baramulla.”
A police spokesman in a statement said that during the intervening night of 27-28/10/2021, militants fired upon the Area Domination Patrol party (ADP) of Police and 46RR in Cherdari area of Baramulla.
“Alert joint party retaliated effectively and in a brief shootout one militant was killed. He has been identified as Javed Ahmad Wani of Kulgam,” police said
As per police records, the slain militant was a part of a group involved in killing of two non-locals in Wanpoh area of Kulgam along with the militant Gulzar who was killed on 20 October 2021.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 pistol, 01 loaded magazine & 01 Pak branded grenade was recovered from the killed militant’s possession,” police said, adding that on the basis of preliminary investigation, IGP Kashmir said that the killed militant was hybrid type and was on mission to target one shopkeeper in Baramulla.
Police has registered a case in this regard and further investigation is going on.
