Constitution of RERA in JK: High-level panel yet to finalise its recommendations

Srinagar, Nov 1: A high-level committee is yet to finalize its recommendations for appointment of chairperson and members of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources in the Housing & Urban Development Department(H&UDD) said that the panel headed by High Court Judge Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey and comprising administrative secretary, H&UDD Dheeraj Gupta and administrative secretary Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Achal Sethi is yet to firm up its recommendations for the appointment. “The panel met 2-3 times after its constitution but it has not finalized its recommendations till date,” they said.
The H&UDD had initiated the process for constitution of the RERA in February this year. To begin with, the department had invited applications from eligible/desirous persons for selection to the post of chairperson and members of the RERA.
The chairperson and members of the Authority are to be appointed by the government on the recommendations of a selection committee consisting of the Chief Justice of the High Court or his nominee, the Secretary of the Department dealing with Housing, and the Law Secretary.
A person to be appointed as chairperson of the body shall have adequate knowledge and professional experience of at least 20 years in urban development, housing, real estate development, Infrastructure, economics and the persons to be appointed as members shall have professional experience of at least 15 years in these fields.
