DC Srinagar reviews measures for enforcement of rates of Essential Commodities

Srinagar, Nov 5: The Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Friday chaired a meeting convened here to review the implementation and enforcement of rates of essential commodities, besides intensifying market checking in City markets.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to keep a “strict watch” on prices of essential commodities in the District and enforce the provisions of the Essential Commodities (EC) Act to curb hoarding.
The DC asked the officers of FCS&CA to ensure that adequate stocks of all essential commodities are maintained and create a buffer to cushion the unusual price fluctuations and keep prices stable at all marketplaces. He also directed the officers to publish rates of essential commodities in leading Newspapers on a regular basis, besides shopkeepers were asked to display rate lists of all essentials in the shops.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner constituted 17 Enforcement/Market checking squads at Tehsil level to intensify the market checking and ensure all commodities are sold at already fixed prices besides ensure availability and quality of all essential supplies in the market to avoid hoardings and profiteering.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Syed Hanief Balkhi, Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Yassen Lone, SDM East Owais Mushtaq, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Assistant Director FCS&CA, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, concerned Tehsildars and other concerned were present in the meeting.
