Vector Control, IEC activities intensified to fight Dengue: Malariologist

Jammu, Nov 5: The Malariologist, J&K, Jammu and civic bodies have intensified the preventive measures to control the rising cases of Dengue in Jammu Division.
Dengue is a viral disease caused by the bite of infected female aedes mosquito, which is highly domesticated voracious day biter and breeds in clean water, in and around the houses like old tyres, back yard litter etc.
A total of 1078 cases of Dengue have been reported in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with majority of cases in districts of Jammu (659), Kathua (194) and Samba (94) in Jammu Division till 03.11.2021.
The office of the Malariologist, J&K, Jammu has up scaled the ongoing activities like vector control activities (bio larvicide fish, spraying & Fogging) and IEC/BCC activities(Print, Electronic, Social Media & miking).
On the spot visit are being conducted to the areas having a high number of reported cases, Radio talks to increase the awareness among the masses regarding preventive measures is being aired periodically by the senior officers of the Department.
In collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation, thermal fogging has been conducted to kill adult mosquitoes two rounds (42 days) in a phased manner covering 75 wards of Jammu urban areas and additional rounds of fogging as per the NVBDCP guidelines. Similar activities are being carried out in the other districts like Samba, Kathua & Udhampur also.
Extra round of spraying was also done in collaboration with JMC. Indoor space spray and larvicide sprays are being done as per guidelines.
Ten numbers of Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals with diagnostic facility are functional.
Keeping in view the upsurge of the cases, 155 numbers of beds have been dedicated for the hospitalised patients at GMC Jammu and all District Hospitals and new GMCs at Doda, Kathua and Rajouri.
