Srinagar, Nov 12: The recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the Union Territory (UT) mainly in Kashmir is largely because people have left following Covid appropriate behavior followed by the change in behavior of people of Kashmir in winters, experts said on Friday.
Experts said that vaccination is the only way to save people from catching the disease as severity cases and bilateral pneumonia among fully vaccinated people is very rare.
Dr Nisar Ul Hassan, President Doctors Association Kashmir said that the Covid-19 like other viruses could escalate in winters as in cold drier viruses remain active for more time due to which there remains more chances of contracting virus in winters.
Hassan said that in winter, human behavior also changes and to save themselves from the cold, families remain at a single place together with very less ventilation.
“If one contracts a virus in such a situation, the whole family gets involved,” he said.
“If there will be no emergent variant, we could have very less hospitalisation and disease from mild to moderate as half of the population is now fully vaccinated,” Hassan said.
Hassan said that the virus would remain with us, however, pandemic can end and it will become a seasonal virus.
“The severity of disease among those who are fully vaccinated are very rare. So, the only way to save ourselves from this deadly virus is to fully vaccinate ourselves,” he said.
Dr Khursheed Ahmad Wani, leading Pulmonalogist at CD hospital said that as people have left following Covid appropriate behavior mostly during marriages and other gatherings has led to a surge in the cases in the last few days.
“The severity of disease among fully vaccinated people is very rare and cases of bilateral pneumonia among fully vaccinated people are negligible,” Wani said.
