Srinagar, Nov 17: Thousands of devotes on Wednesday participated in the special congregational prayers at Dastgeer Sahab shrine in Khanyar and Sarai Bala areas of Srinagar where annual Urs of the 11th century Sufi saint, Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), known as Dastageer Sahib was observed with religious fervor.
The Urs was observed with religious zeal across the Valley. The devotees thronged the shrine on Tuesday evening and participated in the night-long prayers.
The Urs of Dastgeer Sahab (RA) is being observed on the 11th day of Rabi Al Thani—the fourth month of the Islamic Hijri Calendar.
Witnesses said that a huge gathering of devotees was witnessed at both the shrines today situated in Srinagar areas including Khanyar and Sarai Bala. The holy relic of saint was displayed at Khanyar shrine after every prayer throughout the day.
Emotional scenes were also witnessed at the Dastgeer Sahab shrines when the people had the glimpse of the holy relic of the revered saint today. The biggest congregational prayers were held at Khanyar shrine here where thousands of devotees participated in the congregational prayers.
During the special prayers, the religious clerics threw light on the teachings of the revered saint. Besides, the shrines at both the places were decorated by the caretakers (Khadims).
Outside the shrines, the local and non-local business establishments had installed their carts and were seen selling the Kashmir traditional food stuff.
Pertinently, the actual shrine of the revered saint is located at Baghdad in Iraq. Even though the saint has never visited Kashmir, he is highly revered by the locals. (KNO)
