The education scenario has altogether changed in Jammu and Kashmir as the people at the helm are still reluctant to open up the educational institutions here in the Union Territory citing the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The million dollar question remains that how long the students are supposed to suffer in absence of offline classes. Even the experts believe that the education system has almost collapsed and online mode has not provided desired results. Online education upto a certain time may have helped, but stretching it too much has created problems. Furthermore a large number of our children do not have access to online education and some don’t even have a basic Smartphone. Those children are at a huge disadvantage and nobody knows what kind of future awaits them. The government doesn’t comprehend the problem and the crisis which is staring at the society. We are looking at a generational gap due to a huge learning loss. This will be very difficult for our society to cope up with. We as a society have to rise to the occasion and press for the reopening of the schools as keeping the educational institutions shut will no longer help in decreasing the cases or to combat the virus. The government should have closed all the institutions be it departments or anything else in wake of the Covid-19. But, the continuous closure of schools will certainly land us in a disastrous situation in future, which needs to be avoided at an earliest. The government must reopen the educational institutions fully for the students so that the education system is back on track in a better and meaningful way.
