Srinagar, Dec 8: The district hospital in central Kashmir’s Budgam region is reeling under dearth of doctors and medical officers—thus putting the lives of patients living in the area at risk.
The hospital has more than half-a-dozen unfilled doctor posts and around three dozens of Para-medical staff.
The Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned hospital in a reply to Right to Information (RTI) application filed by the activist, M M Shuja has said that the hospital has a deficiency of at least of seven doctors.
“Besides, the district hospital Budgam has a deficiency of 36 Para-medicos,” the PIO said.
In a RTI application, on asking as to whether the hospital was designated for COVID-19 centre, the PIO has said that the hospital was not designated as the COVID-19 centre but the authorities were managing to treat the patients at early stage and later were being shifted to major COVID-19 centres.
“The hospital was not dedicated to COVID-19 patients from October-01-2021 onwards, however the COVID-19 patients were managed in the hospital for early treatment and later on shifted to dedicated COVID-19 hospitals of the Valley,” reads the RTI reply.
The PIO said, “Further, two emergency rooms with High-end Pediatric ward and Dialysis unit have been established in the past three years in the hospital. The existing trained staff has been utilized for the same.”
