DC outlines plan for beautification of Anantnag town

Anantnag, Jan 11: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla Tuesday took stock of the functioning of Municipality Anantnag and reviewed the progress of works being executed by it besides deliberate on new projects to be taken up.
Reviewing the works currently being executed under various schemes, CEO MC Anantnag informed the chair that under Urban Development Scheme, 20 works have been taken up of which 6 have been completed and other works are going on. Under IDMT, out of the 14 works allotted, 5 have been completed, he added.
Similarly, under 14th FC grants 112 works have been completed and many works are under execution and will be completed in the next two months, the CEO said.
Progress under ‘My Town My Pride’, FC grants and AMRUT were also deliberated upon.
President MC Anantnag informed the chair that the Multi Level Car Parking has been made functional in the district and has been a major relief to commuters. He informed the chair that 62 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant for Anantnag Town (Zone 2 and 3) has been almost completed and will be made functional in a few days.
He said that for scientific disposal of sewage, a 4 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Mehdi Kadal is functional and is benefitting more than 1900 households.
There was thorough discussion on various upcoming projects like Ghanta Ghar which is being constructed at Lal Chowk. The DC emphasized that work must be commenced at the earliest possible time and directed the concerned to imbibe historic architectural features.
The DC directed the MC officials to take up aesthetic upliftment of Khanabal chowk in consultation with heritage experts from the Archives department. There was discussion regarding beautification of Khanabal Degree College road.
It was informed that street lights have been procured for Anantnag town and that the location plan is being worked out to ensure adequate lighting on streets.
Dr Singla stressed on youth centric infrastructure development and advised the municipality to set up a district youth center in the heart of the town which would serve as a reading room cum library, discussion hub and center for knowledge and idea exchange and would be equipped with sports facilities.
The DC said that people have become health conscious and there is a huge demand for jogging facilities in the town area. A jogger park has already been developed in Janglat Mandi and should be opened to the public.
CEO informed the chair that R&B is presently undertaking beautification of Arifat Nallah along the river from Mehdi Kadal to Ashaji Pora. The DC instructed the concerned agency to develop a cycling lane along the river side.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials to work towards better traffic management in the town area. He said that the sumo stand that has already been approved at Mehdi Kadal should be taken up and work completed on war footing.
The meeting was attended by Hilal Shah, President MC Anantnag, SE R&B, CPO, CEO MC Anantnag and Ex Engineer R&B among others.
