Six militant associates held in Sopore, Bandipora: Police

Srinagar, Jan 15: Police on Saturday said that six associates of Lashker-e-Toiba militant outfit were arrested in North Kashmir’s Bandipora and Baramulla district.
In a statement issued here, the police said that acting on a specific information regarding the activities of militant associates in Bandipora town and its adjoining areas, police, army’s 26 RR and 3rd battalion CRPF arrested three militant associates along with arms and ammunition and other incriminating material.
The police identified the arrested associates as Ghulam Mohammad, Irshad Hussain, both residents of Ashtangoo Bandipora and Ashiq Hussain of Sopore.
“On preliminary inquiry it was revealed that these militant associates were working to expand the militant activities of LeT outfit, especially foreign militants, by providing them logistical and other material support including mobile phones and Sim cards,” police said, adding, “One among the arrested persons is a former militant and his anti national activities have recycled many times during past.”
Police said arms ammunition and other incriminating material was recovered from their possession. “Further investigation is going on,” police added.
Meanwhile Sopore police said at about 1405 hours, a joint checkpoint was established by Police alongwith 22RR and 179BN CRPF at Chinar crossing Darpora in Bomai Sopore in north Kashmir.
“During checking, it was noticed that three persons coming from village Gund Brath towards village Bomai were roaming in suspicious conditions and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot.”
However police said they were apprehended tactfully by the vigilant security forces. They have been identified as Arafat Majeed Dar son of Abdul Majeed Dar resident of Harwan Sopore, Tauseef Ahmed Dar son of Lt Gh Hassan Dar resident of Taliyan Mohalla, Arampora Sopore and Momin Nazir Khan son of Nazir Ahmed Khan resident of Arampora Sopore AP Natipora Srinagar.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 02 Pistols, 02 Pistol Magazines, 13 Pistol rounds and a Hand Grenade were recovered from their possession,” police said, adding, “They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.”
