VC DDC Shopian reviews post-Snowfall scenario

Shopian, Jan 15: The Vice-Chairperson (VC) District Development Council (DDC) Shopian, Irfan Manhas Saturday convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the status of Snow clearance and essential services besides situation arisen due to recent Snowfall in the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Shopian, Mohammad Yousuf Mir; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani; Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Shahbaz Ahmed Bodha; Ex. Engineer R&B; AD, Planning and Officers of line departments.
On the occasion, the VC directed the concerned officers to gear up their activities and leave no stone unturned in lifting the snow from the remaining roads of the district.
He also directed the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department for verification of APL and BPL Ration Cards so that all the deserving beneficiaries are able to get their ration in due course of time and warned that any kind of laxity will not be tolerated on this behalf.
The VC was informed that all measures have already been put in place to tackle the situation and Snow has been cleared from all major roads, traffic is plying normally on various routes and the men and machinery have been put into service to clear the remaining roads of the district.
AEE Mechanical informed that 617 Km’s of road length has been cleared of snow till date and machines are available with the Mechanical department to ensure clearance of snow from rest of the roads in the district.
Likewise, electricity is being restored in hilly areas while, in Towns and urban areas, power has already been completely restored.
All supplies including power, water, and road connectivity to all hospitals, government offices and emergency establishments have been restored fully and restoration work is going on in full swing.
The VC lauded the District Administration for lifting of snow, restoration of power and other essential services.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani gave a detailed report about the steps taken by District Administration for quick lifting of Snow and the distribution of Disaster Management equipment among the concerned departments for gearing up their activities in speeding up the Snow clearance operations.
