The employees working in the government departments here seem to have no administration support as whenever any untoward incident happens to them, their families are being pushed to the wall. Several such instances have been reported by a section of media recently, which claim that the families of Power Development Department (PDD) linemen, who were electrocuted to death, are facing immense hardships since their beloved left this world. According to the figures, since 2017, at least 62 daily wagers who were serving the department for more than a decade on meagre wages have died due to electrocution in different villages. Besides 62 deaths due to electrocution, 84 others have suffered disabilities after falling from electric poles during this period. Most of these daily wagers are poor and are waiting for a couple of decades for regularization. However, unfortunately they die for free serving the department. Families of many of these daily wagers who sacrificed their lives while discharging duties are in miserable condition. These daily wage line men are neither provided equipment or imparted any training as to how to climb the poles and fix the faults. Nonetheless, there is a need to understand the situation being faced by the poor families and thus the government should consider providing compensation and jobs to the Next of Kins of the deceased linemen. This measure by the government will be a tribute to the poor linemen, who have served the department with dedication and even lost their lives as well.
