Srinagar, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested 14 gamblers and detained a notorious drug peddler under Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police spokesman in a statement, said that acting tough against social crimes, police in Baramulla have arrested 14 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession. Besides, a notorious drug peddler was detained under PSA.
“Acting on specific information, police parties from Police Station Kunzer and Police Station Pattan raided gambling sites at Takiya Batpora, Hardu Aboora, Hanjiwera Bala & Kripalpora Payeen following an input about gambling activities and apprehended 14 gamblers.”
Officers have seized stake money of Rs 36,440 and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, police said.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress.
Moreover, a notorious drug peddler namely Muzamil Majeed Bhat @Hashim son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Baramulla was detained under PSA for his active involvement in drug peddling activities in Baramulla Town.
Several cases under NDPS Act stands already registered against him. He has been lodged at Central Jail Kot Bilwal Jammu under detention orders received from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, police said.
Meanwhile, police said that persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. “Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.”
