Bandipora, Feb 3: The locals from several areas in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district staged a protest on Thursday against the government for not compensating for their land which was used for constructing road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in their respective areas.
While showing strong resentment, the locals from several areas including Kehnoosa, Aloosa, Chandeji and Guroora assembled outside mini-secretariat Bandipora and staged protest against the government against PMGSY officials, alleging that many years have passed and they are still not getting compensation.
The protesters said that they provided land to the government when they built the road from their respective areas, despite the fact that they were promised compensation at that time, “but they have not yet received the same”.
The protesters also alleged that in order to make the land suitable for the construction of the road, the government destroyed their crops and cut apple and walnut trees and in return they did not receive a single penny.
“Although our papers were prepared by the revenue department, we are not getting any compensation yet,” said one of the protesters.
“We want to know from our district administration why we are not getting the compensation, “they said. The protesters appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to look into the matter so that they can breathe a sigh of relief. (KNO)
