Ganderbal, Feb 4: The Jal Shakti Department has failed to repair a damaged water reservoir in Bamluen Kangan in Ganderbal District with locals alleging that the persistent leakage for over 15 years has damaged Subdivision Kangan’s Trauma Hospital and government offices while the concerned department is acting as a mute spectator.
“It has been over 15 years since the water reservoir for supplying water to the nearby 30 villages of Kangan Sub-division got damaged. There is no end to the leakage since then,” the locals alleged.
They said that they have approached the concerned officials many times since 2016. “We were only promised redressal from time to time while no steps were taken on the ground,” a local resident said.
Locals said that many reservoirs have suffered damages due to persistent leakage. “Almost 50 percent of water is getting wasted every day but the concerned authorities don’t bother to look into the matter.”
The locals appealed to the LG administration, DC Ganderbal and Chief Engineer Jal Shakti to look into the matter and fulfill their demands at the earliest.
However, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Ganderbal said, “I have an additional charge of the Ganderbal district, I will check the site first and will then look into the matter.”
Sarpanch Manzoor Ahmed appealed to the concerned department to repair the damaged reservoir at the earliest.
