As the recent crime incidents against the women have indicated a worrisome situation in the Valley due to the rising drug menace, the government actions have witnessed a pace, which is the need of the hour to ensure that the drug menace is put to an immediate end. In one such instance, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar as well as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Thursday evening launched a massive crackdown against the drug peddling and raided hotspots of drug consumption in various parts of the City. As per the official spokesman, the raids were carried out at Zero bridge and other locations in Raj Bagh area of City wherein some persons found in substance abuse on the spot were rounded up. Based on the input given by them several shops were sealed after incriminating material was found there. The raids were conducted a day after the government launched a programme titled “Mission Wapsi”. There is a need to involve the parents of drug addicts as well as the head of the local areas to ensure that those who are in this path are identified properly and a subsequent process to bring them back will take place. The move of initiating the programme has been widely appreciated, but there is a need to keep the programme running till the goal is achieved. The drug menace has to be eradicated from society to ensure a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
