Panch shot dead in Kulgam

Kulgam, Mar 2: Unknown gunmen on Wednesday evening shot dead an independent Panch at Kulpora Srandroo area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
An official said that unknown gunmen shot at a Panch in Srandroo area of Kulgam.
He said that in the incident, the panch identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Dar of Kulpora Srandroo Kulgam received injuries, who was rushed to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kulgam, Dr. Muzaffar Zargar said that panch was brought dead to the hospital.
Moreover, the officials said that the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers and further investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, Police spokesman in a statement said that Kulgam Police received information about a militant act at Kolpora area of Kulgam.
Senior police officers reached at the spot, he said, adding that preliminary investigation has revealed that militants had fired upon a Panch (Independent) identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Dar at Kolpora Srundoo area of Kulgam.
“In this incident, he had sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of law.
“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this incident. The area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” police said.
