The delay in salaries to the government employees has always remained a hot topic as the protests and demonstrations have always been witnessed at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and at other places as well. One fails to understand why the employees are being forced to hit the streets for their genuine issues. The administration, no doubt, has been trying to ensure transparency within the departments, but those who are serving at the different places and positions are not being paid at the right time, thus forcing their families and especially the school and college-going children to suffer. There are several instances when the government employees, be it a daily wager, casual labourer or health care workers, claimed that they have not been able to pay the schools fees of their children, which has simultaneously affected their studies as well. One needs to understand that the delay in salaries to anyone is adding to the misery of hundreds of families. There are people who question the delay in releasing the salaries and monthly honorarium to the employees, which has been witnessed from time to time in Jammu and Kashmir. The government in order to prove its claims of better governance should put an end to the issues being faced by the employees, who are being forced to hit the streets. There is a need to release the pending salaries of the government employees at an earliest so that they and their families could heave a sigh of relief.
