Laxity continues

The traffic department might have taken measures to put an end to the miseries of commuters in Srinagar and elsewhere, but the situation continued to remain the same in Habba Kadal locality in Srinagar City where dozens of vehicles are being parked by the people on either side, thus blocking the major portion of the bridge. It has been over two years since the issue is being faced by the people in the locality, but unfortunately, the concerned department has not taken any action in this regard, resulting in sufferings to the commuters. Crossing the bridge has turned out to be hectic for the commuters as only one vehicle can pass through the bridge at a time and the other vehicle coming from the opposite side has to wait till one crosses it. It is notable to mention here that the bridge was recently repaired. The people question the utilization of a hefty amount on the bridge when it was supposed to act as a parking slot for the commuters. One can easily imagine the hardships being faced by the commuters after giving a look at the bridge. The shopkeepers, employees and others use the bridge as a parking place, thus causing great inconvenience to the people. The concerned department as well as the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) should look into the matter and ensure that the illegal occupation of the bridge is stopped forthwith and the smooth passage to the vehicular movement is ensured.
