Kulgam, Apr 15: A teacher posted at Government Middle School Tengen in Yaripora village of Kulgam is allegedly forcing students to do menial jobs at the school, prompting the authorities to suspend him.
Official sources said that on Friday the accused teacher asked some students to clean rooms of the school and toilet. A teacher interfered and requested him not to clean toilets to no avail.
But it infuriated the teacher and he slapped his colleague and created ruckus, they said.
He manhandled his colleagues including the head of the school drawing protest from students and their guardians.
Students alleged that the teacher often asks them to do menial jobs.
“If anyone is asking our kids to do menial jobs, he must be transferred and action must be initiated against him. The school should be allowed to operate normally so that students don’t suffer,” parents said.
Chief Education Officer Kulgam Mohammad Ashraf Rather said that said teacher has been suspended and a committee has been constituted to conduct an inquiry into the issue.
“Pending enquiry into his conduct, Gowhar Farooq Ganie, teacher PS Tengen Zone Yaripora is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and he shall remain attached with this office during suspension period,” reads the order issued by Chief Education Officer Kulgam.
“In the backdrop of suspension of Gowhar Farooq Ganie, Teacher PS Tengemn Zone Yaripora in view of his manhandling of head of institution and other staff members, the following officers are hereby nominated as enquiry officers to conduct the in-depth enquiry in this behalf & furnish the report to the undersigned within four days positively,” it added.
The committee members include Principal BHSS Yaripora, Principal HSS D.H.Pora and Zonal Education officer, Yaripora (DDO), it said.
