DC Srinagar inaugurates Block level Health Mela at UPHC Nishat

1000 patients avail super speciality level facilities

Srinagar, Apr 18: To sensitize people about the importance of health and well being and to bring varied health facilities at the door steps of the public, a Mega Health cum Awareness Mela was held at Urban Primary Health Centre(UPHC) Nishat in Medical Block Hazratbal under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsov celebrations, here on Monday.
The Health Mela was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad in presence of Chairman District Development Council, Srinagar, Malik Aftab Ahmad.
Besides, members of Panchayat Raj Institutions, the Mela had participation by Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar, Dr Jameel Ahmad; Block Medical Officer Hazratbal, Dr Farah Shafi; HOD, Community Medicine GMC, Srinagar, Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan, other Senior health functionaries and official from Drug & Food Control Organisation and other line Departments.
After inaugurating the camp organized by Block Medical Officer, Hazratbal in collaboration with Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, GMC, the DC along with the DDC Chairman inspected the stalls established by Department of AYUSH, Drug and Food Control Organization, National TB Elimination Programme, Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, ICDS Project.
Besides, stalls for awareness, various medical facilities including Physiotherapy, Registration of PMJAY Golden Cards, ABHA Cards, e-Sanjivini, Non Communicable Disease (NPCDCS) testing etc were also put in place.
During the camp nearly one thousand patients visited the Health Mela and were seen by Specialist and Super-Specialist Doctors from Department of Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics, Ophthamology, Endocrinology from GMC, Srinagar, while Free Diagnostics, USG and Medicines were also provided to the patients.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the objectives of holding such Health Melas. He said that the Health Melas will be beneficial in providing wellness behaviour among the masses, besides, preventive measures for diseases along with healthcare services for early detection and their treatment.
The DC also stressed upon the PRI members and officers of the line departments to mobilise the local population in other Medical Blocks to make these Health Melas meaningful and purposeful so that general people are benefitted.
During the Mela, a poster competition was conducted which was participated by doctors and MBBS students of GMC, Srinagar. The top three position holders were felicitated by DC Srinagar with medals. The winners include Ulfat and Mehak (gold), Sumedha and Irham Wani (silver) and Dr. Labeeb Farooq (bronze).
The ASHAs of Block Hazratbal presented skit on NCDs, besides a Mock drill was conducted by 108 ambulances and Food Analysis was demonstrated in the Food Safety Testing Van by Food Safety Unit.
Pertinent to mention that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has directed the Health Department of J&K to conduct Health Melas in every Medical Block mass awareness of the people.
