Srinagar, Apr 20: The residents of Chanapora area of Srinagar on Wednesday staged a protest against the installation of smart meters in their locality.
The protesters, including men, women and children, assembled at the main Chanapora road and raised slogans against the installation of smart meters.
The protesters blocked the main road due to which the traffic was halted for hours, leaving the commuters to suffer.
The protesters said that the people in the locality are labour class and the huge electricity tariff would be unaffordable for them.
They urged the concerned authorities to revisit the decision of installing smart meters in their area at earliest so that the poor residents could heave a sigh of relief.
