For the first time in the recent past, the government has come up with an initiative to develop six areas in the interiors of Dal Lake as model villages and the directions were passed to ensure the development within three months. However, one fails to understand why an officer, who is heading the Lakes & Conservation Management Authority (LCMA) department, is allegedly reluctant to make the changes happen. Scores of the dwellers from the particular locality Wednesday hit the streets and demanded his immediate transfer, alleging that the officer is not allowing the locality to be developed as the model villages. It seems that the officers on the ground are reluctant to accept the directions from the top officials or seemingly the directions being issued have no takers on the ground. One wonders how the directions are being manipulated on the ground. There seems no seriousness within the administration with regard to the development for the benefits of the people. The model villages are set to help the unemployed youth to earn their livelihood after the tourists would start visiting their places, but the hindrances being created needs to be looked into thoroughly and thus immediate steps in this regard must be taken. The government should take necessary steps to fulfill the promises of developing model villages within the set timeframe so that the Dal dwellers could heave a sigh of relief and the unemployed youth would be able to earn bread and butter for their families.
